Seed Saving with Alva Waterstone

Alva Waterstone is a first generation organic seed and produce farmer working with the cultivation and stewardship of bio-regionally adapted and heirloom seed varieties. With a deep commitment to ecological sustainability and seed sovereignty, their work focuses on developing and preserving resilient plant genetics that are uniquely suited to the conditions of their local environment.

Drawing on traditional agricultural knowledge and contemporary ecological principles, Alva curates a diverse seed collection that reflects both the cultural heritage and biological diversity of their region. Wild Child farm operates as a dynamic agroecosystem, where soil health, biodiversity, and seed integrity are prioritized through regenerative practices.

Central to the farms mission is the conservation of heirloom varieties—seeds that have been passed down through generations, valued not only for their historical and culinary significance but also for their genetic diversity and adaptability. By selecting and saving seeds that thrive under local conditions, Alva contributes to building more robust and regionally relevant food systems in the face of climate change and industrial agriculture.

Through their work with the crew at Wild Child Farm, they exemplify the vital role of small-scale seed stewards in maintaining agricultural biodiversity, fostering regional food resilience, and restoring a reciprocal relationship between people, seeds, and the land.
